APPLYING FOR RECEPTION 2025

Applications for Reception 2025 are open and the national deadline is 15th January 2025.

*You can apply for your Reception place by clicking the link below*

https://www.essex.gov.uk/apply-for-a-primary-school-place

All applications received after 15 January 2025 will be treated as late and will only be processed after all on-time applications.

You are less likely to get a place at one of your preferred schools if you apply later.

16th April 2025- National Offer Day (Parents are informed of the outcome of their application)

Appeal

You have the right to appeal to an independent panel for a place at any of your preferred schools that haven’t offered you a place.

You should not reject the school offer you have until you have secured another place.

Infant size class appeals

This applies to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes where classes are limited to 30 children. If you’re appealing an infant size class limit, your chance of a successful appeal is very limited.

An appeal can only succeed if:

  • admitting an extra child would not breach the class size limit
  • your child would have been offered a place if the admission arrangements had complied with admissions law or were correctly and impartially applied
  • the admission authority’s decision to refuse a place was not one which a reasonable admission authority would have made in the circumstances of the case
